Why I Am Running

Why I am Running For Congress

I am running for Congress because we have to make Congress work again for the American people.

I am running for Congress because we have to make Congress work again for the American people. Georgia’s 7th District needs a congressman who will fight for expanded economic opportunity, affordable and accessible healthcare, and a strong public education system for all Americans.  We need a congressman who works to eliminate the suffocating influence of “big money” on our politics.  We need a congressman who supports responsible national security policies to protect our country.  We need a congressman who will work tirelessly to create and maintain effective and fair public policy through serious, honest debate and discussion.  That’s the kind of congressman I pledge to be.

I believe the 7th District needs a congressman who will call out and resist President Donald Trump’s efforts to divert our great nation down a dark path.

The columnist E. J. Dionne recently referred to distraction, delusion, and division as defining features of the Trump Administration.  I believe the 7th District needs a congressman who will call out and resist President Donald Trump’s efforts to divert our great nation down a dark path.

Trump’s rollback of healthcare and environmental protections, his proposed tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, his undermining of ethical norms, his attacks on the judicial branch, and his efforts to obstruct the investigations of his administration will all continue if a divided nation and a complicit Congress are too distracted to reject such actions.

Since the last election, Mr. Woodall has been a Trump enabler, going along with President Trump on the healthcare rollback, and avoiding public appearances so as to dodge questions from constituents.

Our current congressman, Republican Rob Woodall, too often offers rhetoric and hyper-partisan politics rather than good governance.  Mr. Woodall has spent his entire career in Washington, D.C., first as a staff member and then for the past seven years as a congressman.  In the years he’s been in Congress, what has Rob Woodall really accomplished for the 7th District and for our country?  Since the last election, Mr. Woodall has been a Trump enabler, going along with President Trump on the healthcare rollback, and avoiding public appearances so as to dodge questions. from constituents.  It’s time for us to replace Congressman Woodall.

I am optimistic about America. I am optimistic about the greatness of this country and the fundamental goodness of our people.

My 24 year old son, Michael, once observed that I am surprisingly “optimistic about politics.” I thought about that and told him that I am optimistic about America. I am optimistic about the greatness of this country and the fundamental goodness of our people. I am optimistic about our shared bedrock principles of freedom, justice and opportunity for all. I believe that strong, reasoned, and ethical leadership by our elected officials, along with active participation in our civic affairs by an engaged citizenry, will assure the continued greatness of America.

I look forward to the campaign ahead and the discussion of our nation’s future. I respectfully ask you for your support and for your vote on Election Day.
