Restoring Middle Class Jobs

Creating Economic Opportunity

Congress must rededicate itself to restoring the American middle class.

Congress must rededicate itself to restoring the American middle class.  Too much wealth is being concentrated among the top 5% of earners in our country.  With automation and globalization reducing and eliminating many of the jobs that have sustained American families in years past, our country must make a renewed push to create more good jobs and opportunity for American workers to prosper.

On the issue of globalization, we should consider implementing a border adjustment (“BAT”) tax on imports that undermine domestic manufacturing.

On the issue of globalization, we should consider implementing a border adjustment (“BAT”) tax on imports that undermine domestic manufacturing.  For some key manufacturing, a national security exception can be implemented to protect the domestic manufacturing sector and the American jobs it supports.

We should pursue federal support of key “clean energy” products and initiatives here at home that will drive the economy of the future.

We should pursue federal support of key “clean energy” products and initiatives here at home that will drive the economy of the future.  Included in such initiatives would be solar and wind energy development, and the manufacturing and marketing of more efficient electric batteries for power generation.  China is subsidizing its domestic “green” energy industry; we must do the same through our trade policies, tax code, and even direct government subsidy where beneficial.

We must make college and secondary education, including junior college and technical training, more affordable and available to all Americans.

We must make college and secondary education, including junior college and technical training, more affordable and available to all Americans.  A well educated workforce is necessary to compete in the global economy and to create more and better paying jobs for our people.

We also must increase the federal minimum wage to a reasonable level.

We also must increase the federal minimum wage to a reasonable level.  An increase in the minimum wage is especially needed by our service sector workers to permit them to earn a true “living wage” to support themselves and their families.
