Healthcare

The efforts of the Trump Administration and the Republican leadership in Congress to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act are wrong.

The efforts of the Trump Administration and the Republican leadership in Congress to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act are wrong. The Republican health care bills being developed in Congress are more tax cut legislation than health care legislation, designed to finance a major tax cut for the highest income earners in our country, while enacting draconian cuts to Medicaid. A big income tax cut at the expense of affordable healthcare makes no sense in an era where so much wealth is concentrated in the top 5% of earners while middle class economic opportunity languishes. The dramatic reductions to Medicaid pushed by congressional Republicans are wrong.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” can be fixed and improved.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” can be fixed and improved. The implementation of a “public option” and restoration of health insurance subsidies at a level envisioned by the original legislation would lead to the stabilizing of insurance markets, reducing premiums and deductibles, with the goal of making good healthcare available to all Americans.

Without good, affordable and accessible healthcare, Americans cannot pursue and benefit from the opportunities our economy and our society can otherwise create.

Without good, affordable and accessible healthcare, Americans cannot pursue and benefit from the opportunities our economy and our society can otherwise create. Our workforce will suffer, impacting our economic performance nationwide, while the cost of healthcare drains the finances of so many Americans of dollars that would otherwise be available to support themselves, their families, and a more vibrant economy for all.

Affordable, effective, and accessible healthcare are requirements for a vibrant society and an energized middle class.

Affordable, effective, and accessible healthcare are requirements for a vibrant society and an energized middle class. To obtain this, we need thoughtful debate and discussion in Congress and among our elected leaders, not the dishonest demonization of “Obamacare” that has undermined the healthcare effort since 2008.
